January in Aus means it is time for the annual pilgramige to Meblourne to watch the Australian Open. This time there was a little more on the agenda, I knew there are good rail trails and easy rides around that part of Victoria, from the various blogs and articles the Lilydale to Warburton trail looked perfect.

As promised the ride was a nice easy cruise, plenty of places to stop and eat along the way, good scenery and very good quality surface. It was great to see plenty of people enjoying the path – runners, cyclists and even the occasional horse! Logistics were incredibly simple; the train goes to the start at Lilydale (after all, it is a Rail Trail!) and buses regularly go back there from Warburton. Cog Bikes dropped bikes at the beginning and the path finishes pretty much at their shop, very easy.

I really like Warburton, it had a very relaxed funky feel.It was a hot day and lots of people were there enjoying the river next to it and the seemingly endless supply of ice cream shops! I would love to go back and explore it more.
